Madhya Pradesh state formation taken place on November 1, 1956. it lies in the very center of India – the largest state till the formation of Chhattisgarh in 2000. It occupies 9.38% of total area of the country now accounts for 5.88% of india’s population. The primary sector and agriculture contributes to 26 % of the gross state domestic product.The secondary sector accounts for a quarter of the state income whereas, the service sector contributes about 42% of the state income. This has a distinctive Cosmopolitan character.
It is endowed with more minerals and forest resources than any other State. M.P is a leading producer of Cement. It has strategic central location 425 trains pass through M.P. daily with 175 trains passing through the state capital Bhopal alone. National highway of 5070 kms run through MP. Six national highways including trunk routes of Delhi-Mumbai. Delhi-Chennai, Delhi -Banglore and Delhi – Hyderabad pass through state. State has convenient air links to major cities of India with key cities of MP.
Madhya Pradesh has 11 different agro-climate zones. 31% of state under forest cover. 13% of India’s forests are in MP. Rich mineral wealth of copper ore,magnesium ore,limestone, diamond, coal and coal-bed methane.14% of india’s coal reserves are in MP. Asia’s thickest coal seam located in the district of Sidhi. MP has the only working diamond mine in India. 144BCM of coal bed methane reserves available.Various blocks available for captive mining for Power, Cement, Iron and Steel Units. Large reserve of limestone, basic construction raw material present; 3625 million tonnes of limestone reserves available. Maganese and dolomite, key ingredients to iron and steel, found in M.P. Exotic varieties of dimensional stones i.e. marble, granite and flagstone available.
MP is a largest producer of oil seeds and pulses in the country. The state is the largest exporter of DOC in India. 25% of pulses and 40% of grams grown here. Commercially flavoured varieties of Wheat and potato grown. Largest producer of garlic and corinder. Over 100 agricultural farms with an area of over 20,000 acres available on lease to investors. Massive wastelands and government farms from 50 to 3000 acres ready to be offered for investment.
Great stress is being given to the development of horticulture in the state Fruits and Vegetables are grown extensively. Food processing Industries have a good scope here.
Petro Chemical Sector has also been opened up in M.P. with HBJ Pipeline passing though Madhya pradesh and the proposed refinery at Bina, joint venture Bharat Petroleum Ltd. And Govt. of Oman.
